Kate Mewhinney, managing attorney of The Elder Law Clinic, where she supervises upper level law students in representing actual clients in civil matters, is a nationally recognized elder law clinician and lawyer. She has been Chair of the Aging and Law Section of the Association of American Law Schools.  She is Certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, and served on its Board of Directors.  Kate is a Fellow of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.  On the state level, she was Chair of the N.C. Bar Association’s Elder Law Section (2003-2004) and is a Certified Superior Court Mediator with additional certification to mediate guardianship and estate disputes.  Kate is also an Associate in the School of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine (Section of Geriatrics and Gerontology).  Her teaching goals are to inspire law students to work for social justice and strive for excellency in their legal work.  She is married to David A. Martin, and they have two grown children.
