Anna Richardson Smith is a partner at Rountree Losee in Wilmington, NC; Anna counsels employers on employment law compliance and risk management strategies. Whether assisting employers in developing and auditing personnel documents (such as handbooks and evaluations), providing ongoing support in making personnel decisions, or helping employers respond to employee demands, she focuses on merging the employer’s unique business needs with practical risk avoidance. Ms. Richardson Smith also provides targeted personnel management, personnel administration audits, and anti-discrimination training to clients.
On the litigation side of her employment practice, Ms. Richardson Smith defends employers in a wide variety of administrative and judicial proceedings. She also frequently represents parties in contact disputes and business tort matters, including trade secrets litigation and actions involving restrictive covenants.
In addition to her employment practice, Ms. Richardson Smith regularly represents clients in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing complex commercial contracts, including transportation and logistics contracts, and frequently counsels clients on select intellectual property matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Prior to joining Rountree Losee, Ms. Richardson Smith served as a judicial clerk in the Eastern District of Virginia and worked for eleven years as an employment defense attorney with a large Virginia law firm. She is 2003 graduate of Wake Forest School of Law, where she was a Guy T. Carswell Scholar, Senior Articles Editor of the Wake Forest Law Review, and recipient of the E. Magruder Farris Award. Ms. Richardson Smith graduated magna cum laude from Wake Forest University and has an MA in Linguistic Anthropology from the University of New Mexico.
