LLM Academics
Our international curriculum: At Wake Forest, the globalization of law has stimulated the law school's growing commitment to international legal studies. Besides traditional courses in admiralty and maritime law, public international law, and conflicts of laws (private international law), the curriculum includes courses on international business transactions, comparative law, European Union law, and immigration law. In addition to the long-time summer program in London, England, there is a summer program in Venice, Italy in which Wake Forest students study comparative law topics together with Italian students and a summer program in Vienna, Austria. The law school is also a sister school to a law school in Pecs, Hungary.
Self-directed curriculum: Each LLM student can pursue coursework and directed research in an area of law that interests the student. During the program, students take courses that are part of the School's traditional American law curriculum. In addition, students can pursue their own interests through coursework and directed research in a specific area of law. Our LLM students are eligible to take all courses available to our American JD students. Indeed, unlike other LLM programs, our LLM students are in the same classes with first-, second-, and third-year JD students.
Highly qualified foreign law graduates who seek exposure to the American legal system and profession are encouraged to apply to Wake Forest. The LLM Program in American Law is a one-year program of study for international lawyers. Wake Forest's LLM program offers a broad curriculum that will prove invaluable to lawyers returning to practice in their home countries.
