Application forms

All application forms for the Master of Laws (LLM) Program in American Law are available in PDF format. The PDF format facilitates viewing or printing files online from any computer regardless of make or operating system.

  • To install the free Acrobat Reader software that makes this possible, follow the directions to download.
  • Once you've downloaded Acrobat Reader, view the application and type in your information.
  • To save the application for future use, click on the "save" icon, which is located in the far left corner of the lowest tool bar. Once you have completed the application forms, you can either email them as an attachment to llm-admissions@wfu.edu or montaqsr@wfu.edu and submit the rest of your application materials by mail, or you can print out your completed application and mail it to the School of Law along with your other application materials. Certification Letter

If you choose to submit your application to the LL.M. Program as an email attachment to llm-admissions@wfu.edu or montaqsr@wfu.edu, you must print out, sign, and include a certification letter with the other application materials that you will mail to the WFU Law School. This letter will provide us with your signature certifying that the information you provided in the emailed application is accurate. You can download the certification letter here.

University-Grade Transcripts

Wake Forest requires an original, certified transcript of grades from your first and subsequent degrees in law or other disciplines. All transcripts must include an English translation and an explanation of the grading system. Wake Forest also accepts LL.M. credential assembly reports from the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). You should notify us if you registered with LSAC and send us your LSAC account number.

Two Letters of Recommendation

We require two letters of recommendation that discuss your suitability for enrolling in and completing our Master of Laws program. We prefer references from former law professors, from your current employer or from someone with whom you have worked in the field of law or business. Recommendation letters should be in English or accompanied by an English translation.

$70 Application fee

This fee should be included with your LLM application. Generally we will not waive the fee. We will accept a check or money order payable in U.S. currency or a wire transfer. Payment by credit card is not accepted. Note: International students do not have to provide a social security number.

TOEFL Results

If you are from a non-English speaking country or your native tongue is not English, you must register for and take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), given by the Education Testing Service (ETS). Typically, you should register for the test at least two months before it is given. Please request ETS to send official TOEFL scores to Wake Forest University School of Law. Our institution code is 5885, the department code 03, and the department name is the Graduate School of Law. Sometimes it takes two or three months for the official scores to reach Wake Forest from the testing agency. Therefore, we recommend that you fax a copy of your TOEFL score to (336) 758-4496 as soon as it is available, pending our later receipt of the official results. You may also retake the TOEFL and send us your improved score later in the admissions process. The improved score will be added to your application. Our minimum required score for the TOEFL is 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, or 100 on the internet-based test. You must provide us your TOEFL score unless we grant an exemption. We will consider granting an exemption from the TOEFL requirement if you are from an English-speaking country or received a prior academic degree in the United States. We will also accept your TOEFL score from LSAC.

Financial documentation

As part of your application, you must provide proof of sufficient financial support for your study at the law school. Tuition and living expenses for the academic school year total $41,481, which you can find more information about here. This figure does not include travel expenses. This information ensures us that you will be able to complete your studies without financial hardship and helps us to comply with U.S. government requirements when we issue a certificate of eligibility for an I-20 student visa. Financial Documentation consists of two parts:

Certified Bank Statements. You (or your sponsor) must provide us with certified bank statements that show you have funds to pay for your tuition, books, and living expenses for your study at Wake Forest. Bank or financial statements must be accompanied by a cover letter on the financial institution's letterhead.

Sponsorship Letter(s). If you have a scholarship, your sponsor must send us a letter affirming a commitment to provide funds for your LL.M. studies and stating the amount of the scholarship. If your parents or other family members are your sponsors, they should be specific as to the amount they will be providing. You should submit a letter from them stating their commitment to financially support your education in the U.S. and specifying their relationship to you. Included with the letter should be an official letter from a bank or other financial institution verifying that they have sufficient funds to provide for your full course of study and living expenses.

There are two options for submitting your application to the LL.M. Program.

Deadline for Submitting Application

You should submit your application and the supporting materials along with the application fee as soon as possible. Even though our deadline for applications is March 15, we review and accept applications throughout the year.
