AI @ Wake Forest Law

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool for lawyers. Developments across AI technologies are reshaping how legal professionals approach their work. To be prepared for the practice of law, students must understand AI and its applications. 

At the same time, AI is not a replacement for foundational knowledge or core lawyering skills. Legal professionals must be able to do what AI cannot. That includes evaluating incomplete pictures, assessing credibility, reading subtext, and providing advice in the face of uncertainty. Additionally, lawyers must be capable of weighing competing values and understanding context to make decisions regarding goals and strategies. Moreover, legal professionals must be able to verify that AI-assisted work product is accurate and sufficient for client needs.

Wake Forest Law will continue to produce lawyers who are well-versed in legal doctrine and excel at lawyering skills. Additionally, our graduates should be able to recognize when AI may augment their abilities.
