Safety Abroad

Students participating in the Study Abroad Program are required to attend a safety presentation during the spring semester. A representative from WFU’s Police Department will be on hand to discuss safety while traveling and living abroad. At this meeting we also discuss various tips about getting ready for your departure.

Passports

You must have a passport in order to travel abroad. If you already have a passport, make sure your expiration date is at least 6 months after your return from studying abroad. If you need to apply for a passport, please visit the US State Department’s website for instructions on applying for a passport.

US State Department Information

Information about travel to the United Kingdom, Italy, and Austria can be obtained from the US State Department. In particular, you should consult (and check before traveling) the website for Country Specific Information for each of these countries.

If a US State Department Travel Warning or Alert is issued for the country where the program is conducted prior to the program beginning, we will notify all students enrolled in that program and provide the opportunity to withdraw from the program. If you withdraw in these circumstances, we will refund all moneys you have paid; the refund will be made within 20 days after your withdrawal.

Note that European cities are not as accessible to individuals with disabilities as many US cities—especially Venice. If you are concerned about this, please contact us.
