Student Employment
Wake Forest Law offers employment opportunities within the school and is sometimes able to help students find employment within the community. However, the American Bar Association and Wake Forest Law strongly recommend that students not work during the first year of law school because of the intense study requirements.
Positions and programs include:
- Legal Research & Writing Assistants are chosen from rising second and third year law students who are adept in legal research and writing and have a strong academic record.
- Faculty Research Assistants are chosen by individual faculty members based on academic record and interest in research. They assist members of the faculty in research projects.
- Library Reference Assistants and Information Technology Assistants are chosen based on financial need, academic ability, and skill in legal research. These assistants help staff, at a professional level, with critical service functions.
- Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis Assistants are chosen on the basis of financial need and computer knowledge. They assist in computer services with instruction in the Computer Assisted Legal Research course.
On-campus employment opportunities may require the student to demonstrate financial need.
Federal Work-Study
Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federal student aid program based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA and is designed to provide work experience while helping students offset the cost of their education. Limited FWS funding is available to eligible students working on campus during the fall and spring semesters. Earnings are paid directly to the student based on actual hours worked and do not defer payment of tuition and fees.
