Wake Forest Law Library

For more specific information about what we collect, please see our Collection Development Policy. This map shows the locations of physical collections in the Library.

  • Academic Success – A collection of study aids to help students learn legal fundamentals. Includes books, guides, outlines, and flash cards. Located on the second floor.
  • Audio Visual Materials – Contains materials in a variety of formats, including compact discs and DVDs. The collection also contains a variety of indexes and finding aids to some of the Library’s microform materials. Located on the second floor.
  • CIS Materials – Includes a variety of microfiche publications from the Congressional Information Service (now LexisNexis Academic and Library Solutions), including the CIS Microfiche Library of congressional publications from 1970- , House and Senate unpublished hearings, and US Supreme Court oral arguments, records and briefs, and opinions. Located on the ground floor.
  • Federal Materials – Includes materials relating to the three branches of the US Government. Also available are the various case reporters for the federal courts. Additionally, a variety of general legal reference works are available. Located on the second floor.
  • Government Documents – Includes government documents received from the Government Printing Office since 1990. The Law Library receives US Government documents in all formats: paper, microfiche, and electronic. Please consult the catalog or request assistance at the Reference Desk. Located on the second floor.
  • Microform Collections – The Library houses a number of special microforms collections. Some of these include: American Bar Association Archives and the American Law Institute Archives. A microform reader/printer/scanner is located near the microforms on the second floor.
  • North Carolina Materials – A comprehensive collection of North Carolina legal materials, including the General Statutes of North Carolina, House and Senate Journals, bills, digests, session laws, and court reports from the NC Supreme Court and the NC Court of Appeals. Located on the third floor.
  • Online materials – Most electronic resources to which the Library has access are available through the online catalog. Online databases are also accessible on the Library’s website. Please note that many of these resources are for the use of our faculty, staff, and students only and may require a password.
  • Periodical Collections – The Library maintains an extensive collection of journals including most law reviews from ABA-accredited law schools. Current issues are typically only available online. Periodicals are located on the third floor.
  • Reference Collection – The collection contains many demographic and statistical information sources, law resources, dictionaries, handbooks, and directories. These materials must be used in the Library and do not circulate. Located on the second floor near the Service Desk.
  • Regional Reporters – This collection contains all of the West Regional Reporters along with digests and accompanying Shepard’s citators. Since 2018 only the Southeastern Reporter is updated in print. All other updated regional reporters are only available via Westlaw. Located on the third floor of the Library.
  • Reserve Materials – Shelved at the Service Desk, this collection includes materials placed on Course Reserve by professors, and Permanent Reserve materials such as NC Bar exams, study aids, and many titles that are heavily used. Most items may be checked out for four hours and must be used within the Library.
  • Special Collections and Archives – Please ask for assistance at the Service Desk or visit the Special Collections and Archives webpage for more details and contact information. An archive of current and historic Wake Forest Law and faculty publications, such as Wake Forest Jurist, Bulletin of Wake Forest College School of Law (1936-1966), WFU School of Law Student Handbook (1985-2009), WFU School of Law Alumni Directory: 1894-1999, and Hearsay: The Wake Forest School of Law Newspaper (1973-2008).
    • Special collections include the Darryl Hunt and Hunt Trials Collection, donated by Clinical Professor of Law Mark Rabil. This material focuses on the wrongful conviction and incarceration of Darryl Hunt from 1984 to 2003, and encompasses thousands of pages of attorney files, trial transcripts, correspondence, and police reports collected by Professor Rabil as he worked for Hunt’s freedom. These resources are located on the second and third floors and are available by appointment only.
  • Stacks Materials – Includes treatises, other books, and loose-leaf materials on a variety of legal topics. Materials are classed using the Library of Congress Classification. All materials in this collection are shelved on the ground floor.
  • State Materials – Includes primary source materials, such as statutes, court rules, etc. for all US states, the District of Columbia, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Materials are shelved next to the West Regional reporters on the third floor.
  • Superseded Materials – Includes superseded editions of NC statutes, court rules, court reports, and a variety of other materials. These materials are shelved on the ground floor of the library.
