Interlibrary Loan Services

This service is available to current faculty, staff, and students of the Wake Forest University School of Law. Other members of the Wake Forest community may request materials through the Interlibrary Loan Department of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library on the Reynolda Campus or the Document Delivery Services of the Coy C. Carpenter Library at the School of Medicine on the Bowman Gray Campus.

You can request any material that is held in another library. Requested material does not have to be strictly for classwork or research; feel free to request leisure reading. There may be some material that we will advise you to use in a format we already own, rather than try to borrow from another library. Due to the lending restrictions of other libraries, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to borrow every item requested, but we will try!

Interlibrary Loan service is provided free of charge as long as the request is not unreasonably costly to the Library. You are responsible for any overdue, lost, or damaged book fines assessed by the lending library.

There is no way to know how long it will take to receive a requested item. A few days to a month may be required to obtain materials. You can check the status of your request by contacting an Interlibrary Loan assistant at 336.758.4520. Once we receive the item, we will notify you by email or telephone.

Before you submit a request, you must check all the Wake Forest libraries’ discovery catalogs to see if the item is owned by a Wake Forest library. If the item is an article, also search appropriate online databases (e.g., Lexis, Westlaw and Find a Journal) for availability.

Some materials may be delivered to you electronically. All other materials obtained through Interlibrary Loan are to be picked up and returned at the Wake Forest University School of Law Library Service Desk.

The lending institution sets the loan period and other conditions. Most libraries allow us to keep books for about three weeks. Items are due on the date written on the book strap; however if the lending library recalls an item, it must be returned immediately to the Law Library. Renewals may be requested before the due date by contacting an Interlibrary Loan assistant at 336.758.4520.

Not all materials requested can be obtained. Examples of materials other institutions may not want to lend are:

• Audio/visual materials
• Reference materials
• Microforms
• Complete issues of current or bound journals
• Archival materials (manuscripts, papers, etc.)
• Dissertations and theses
• Some government documents

If your request cannot be fulfilled, contact a reference librarian at the Law Library Service Desk for alternatives in obtaining needed materials.

Interlibrary Loan is located at the Service Desk in the Wake Forest University School of Law Library in the Worrell building. Office hours are 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
